Red cotton grows near Ponduru (Andra pradesh) region, farmers in the area raise these indigenous varieties of cotton without usage of pesticides /fertilisers.
Red cotton is ginned with the help of fish jawbone of Valuga fish. This is a unique ginning process. An age-old relationship also exists between the farmers and the weavers in this region.
PONDURU is one of the only places where still single spindle charkha is used for spinning. Yarn upto 120s count hand spun in white hill cotton while upto 60s count in Red cotton.
